Chiropractic

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a licensed health care profession that emphasizes the body's ability to heal itself.  Treatment typically involves manual therapy, often including spinal adjustments.  Other forms of treatment, such as exercise and nutritional counseling, may be used as well.

We provide spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing advanced techniques.  Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today.  Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable, and more effective than ever before.  As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most modern advances in the chiropractic field, Dr. Patrick Black has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine.  Chiropractic care, under a trained professional, can even be used to prevent injuries and help one achieve total health and/or wellness.

Shock Wave Therapy

Shock Wave Therapy

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is an advanced treatment that uses acoustic shockwaves to break up soft tissue calcifications, enhance collagen synthesis, release growth factors, and stimulate the body’s healing process to improve function, reduce pain, and help one stay active. This therapy enhances blood circulation and accelerates the healing of stubborn musculoskeletal conditions in bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscle.

Depending on the injury, patients can avoid invasive treatments, such as steroid injections or surgery. ESWT requires no incisions or downtime. In fact, most patients see long-term results after only three treatments, which take about 15 minutes each.

Shockwave therapy can help with injuries/conditions such as:

  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tendinopathies
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Musculoskeletal Conditions
  • Hip Bursitis
  • Lateral/Medial Epicondylitis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Arthritis

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release

Not all pain is caused by obvious injuries, like broken bones or cuts.  Some pain may stem from myofascial tissues.  These tough membranes are wrapped around the muscles to provide support and connect them to other parts of the body.

Myofascial (Muscular) release  is a type of physical therapy often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome.  Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in a patient's myofascial tissues.

Myofascial release focuses on reducing pain by easing the tension and tightness within the trigger points.  It is not always easy to understand what trigger point is responsible for the pain.  Localizing pain to a specific trigger point is very difficult.  For that reason, myofascial release is often used over a broad area of muscle and tissue, rather than at single points.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy does more than make one feel good, it can actually help the body achieve balance and health.  Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach, which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients.  Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to each patient's chiropractic care.  Every massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury.

The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles.  Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery.

Lifestyle Advice

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom, such as back/neck pain or headaches.  While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle.  For example, there may be certain activities that should be avoided or completed differently to prevent unintentional aggravation of particular health challenges.  The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each patient achieve a fulfilling and happy life...one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most.  We recognize that every patient is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help each one reach total health and wellness.

Posture Re-Training

Posture Re-Training

Stand taller, feel better and get stronger! There is a saying that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."  One's spinal health is no exception.  Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor, such as Dr. Patrick Black, can help reveal important health information, while unlocking the door to improved health and well-being.  Your posture is more than just the way you carry yourself. The effects of poor posture can carry over into your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Fixing bad posture on one's own isn't easy.  A reminder to stand up straighter won't help when there are root issues behind one's poor posture.  Whether it's caused by injury, stress, or anything in between, it takes a professional to help one get into the right place.
Using a chiropractic adjustment, the doctor will find the proper alignment for one's shoulders, spine, and neck. The spinal adjustment will increase range of motion, reduce tension, and ease the patient into good posture.  Dr. Black will also address problems with the muscles and soft tissues. Left unaddressed, the muscles will remain tense and continue pulling one's spine and shoulders into unhealthy positions.
